Performance Analysis of the Turkish Egg Industry Over the Last Ten Years
Abstract
In this study, the performance of the Turkish egg industry between 2016 and 2025 was evaluated in terms of production, consumption, exports, and economic indicators. Data obtained from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), Central Union of Egg Producers of Türkiye (YUM-BİR), FAO statistics, and sectoral reports were used in the research. Egg production volume, laying hen population, per capita consumption, export performance, and changes in feed costs were analyzed. According to the findings, Türkiye has shown significant growth in egg production over the last decade and has become one of the leading countries in global egg production. Continuous increases were observed particularly in production and exports during the 2016–2023 period. However, rising feed costs, avian influenza risks, energy expenses, and export restrictions negatively affected the sector during 2024–2025. As a result, it was concluded that increasing domestic feed raw material production, strengthening biosecurity measures, and maintaining stable export policies are essential for the sustainable growth of the Turkish egg industry.
