This study aims to reveal the geomorphological characteristics of Asar Pond and its immediate surroundings, located within the boundaries of Taşköprü district in Kastamonu Province, and to evaluate its geosite potential. Based on field observations, literature review, and analysis of available data, it has been determined that the pond is situated on a karstic limestone unit and forms a system where natural and anthropogenic processes operate together. The lithological features, morphological diversity, and hydrological structure of the area indicate that it represents a site of significant scientific and educational value.Karstic collapse structures observed around the pond, including dolines, uvalas, and ponors, enhance the morphological diversity and allow direct observation of natural processes in the field. This increases the importance of the area for both education and scientific research. Furthermore, an evaluation of the landscape characteristics shows that slope gradients, sediment accumulations, and the contrast between the water surface and its surroundings strengthen the visual aesthetics of the site. These qualities also support its potential for geotourism and recreational use.According to the assessments conducted, the geosite potential of Asar Pond has been evaluated based on four main criteria: scientific observability, educational value, aesthetic features, and conservation status. The results indicate that the area possesses a high value in terms of all these criteria. However, existing deficiencies in promotion and infrastructure limit the effective and sustainable utilization of this potential.In this context, it is of great importance to develop comprehensive planning strategies for the conservation and management of the area. Protecting natural processes and geomorphological features around the pond, improving visitor information and guidance systems, and planning the area for educational and tourism purposes in a controlled manner are essential.In conclusion, Asar Pond and its surroundings stand out as an important geosite with significant geomorphological, natural, and landscape values in terms of scientific, educational, and touristic aspects. Effective management and conservation practices will contribute to increasing regional environmental awareness and ensuring the sustainable use of natural heritage.
